I’m trying to crochet a goldfish this morning, and I’m getting really frustrated at abbreviations.
No one uses the same ones universally in crochet patterns, so there’s generally a key at the beginning spelling out what they mean, but frequently the writer will leave out some of them. I’ve now had FIVE abbreviations that don’t mean a damn thing to me. I don’t know what they mean, so I was making guesses, and I guessed wrong, so now I need to start over and screw the pattern: I’m just going to wing it.
I understand writing using abbreviations while you’re creating a pattern, it’s much easier to write down while you’re in the midst of working, but one of the points of transcribing is to make it understandable to everyone else you’re sharing it with. So really, just write out the word, it can’t be that difficult.
