The game last night was pretty great, the Bucks won!  It was my first basketball game, so not too shabby. I’m really glad that I don’t have to go to work today, especially after all the snow that came down last night and all the shoveling that we did this morning my back is feeling a little wrecked and I don’t really want to venture out onto the roads. The pup is still wiped...

Wicket has thrown herself into a pile of blankets for an early nap after her first encounter with snow in the back yard.  She spent a full ten minutes tearing through the yard, down the back and into the side yard where she ran in a circle so many times she made a visible path through the snow.   I’ve already made some more olive tapenade and I need to convince myself to leave it alone...

I promised myself that I wouldn’t go heat up the rest of the pirogues before noon. Eleven minutes and counting.

I’m planning to make fried okra to go with our dinner tonight and it’s all I can do to not make it right this minute and eat that (and only that) for lunch. Maybe I’ll just make some sweet tea to go along with dinner and convince myself that fried okra is not a proper meal.

Dear Republicans, No matter how many tax breaks you give to businesses (small and otherwise) they will not be able to grow or even squeak by if their customer base is pushed further into poverty.  Money doesn’t work that way. No love, Nata

If you do not adhere to the maxim if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all when conversing with someone you don’t know in a public space I’m going to walk away. And if you proceed to shout after me I’m going to ignore you. Really people, really.

nanny sick time
I was getting ready for work this morning when it became apparent (without going into gross details) that I really shouldn’t spend my day around young children about to go on vacation because I could very well get them all sick.  It’s hard in this job to find the balance between taking time off when you are sick and knowing that there’s usually no one to take over for you when...

At work, but both girls are asleep so I’m trying to get a head start on planning tomorrow night’s grocery run which only leads to one conclusion…my life is not nearly as exciting as it could be.

Despite being rather sick this past week (ew.) and still a bit sick I’ve actually gotten a lot done in the last week. I’m still functioning as my mom’s chauffeur until she’s completely recovered, so yesterday I took her out to finish her christmas shopping and I managed to get a few more presents finished as well. I can’t wait until this Thursday!  I have to work...

Per usual I’m spending Wednesday morning clipping coupons and putting together a grocery list for a stop after work.  I’m contemplating how much housework I can get done before I leave and if I should just assume I’ll be able to do coupons at work durning naptime.  But really, sometimes naptime happens right before the older girls get home from school which means I’ll be...

I was just working on balancing my budget on mint and then decided to fiddle around with their comparison graphs and what not which led to the discovery that in the last year my “net worth” has increased by $396. 1) It’s weird to even think I have a “net worth” 2) I was surprised how excited I was that it had gone up All in all, “net worth” is still a...

After certain events this past weekend meant we really didn’t get anything done on Sunday I’m going to spend the day wrapping presents and working on the house.  It’s a three day work week so I’ll only be gone Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday which means I should have plenty of time to get things done today and Friday.  I still have some shopping and errands to run before...

I’m trying to crochet a goldfish this morning, and I’m getting really frustrated at abbreviations. No one uses the same ones universally in crochet patterns, so there’s generally a key at the beginning spelling out what they mean, but frequently the writer will leave out some of them.  I’ve now had FIVE abbreviations that don’t mean a damn thing to me.  I don’t...

There must be a direct correlation between how many times I say “fuck this” while Christmas shopping and why I start to dislike people more this time of year.

Two things being a nanny has taught me:
1) Patience 2) How to say no.  Repeatedly, if necessary. So really, go ahead, waste your time trying to get me to say yes cause I can say no every single goddamned time.

- One coupon stack down, two to go. - First load of laundry about to be folded, second and third in the washer and dryer, and when those are done I’m taking a shower in preparation for the heating/vent guy coming over at four. - Sara is with Mom so I’m not going over today, but probably on Thursday. Sill need to… - make short grocery list for stop tomorrow after work -...

I have three stacks of coupons, and my goal this morning is just to get through one and then start more laundry. Mom is recovering from her surgery last week and I’ll probably go spend the afternoon at her house. As for the rest of the week, I have more days off then on so I’m hoping that I can get everything for Christmas done by Saturday when we do Candy Cane Lane.

Since lately everyone has been quoting “Walker facts” at me regarding the numbers here’s a small reminder of how the numbers actually break down. Let’s go over this one more time.  In the plan that was outlined to us we know that next year my family’s health care benefits will be cut.  And we will be expected to pay more for it.  So much more that we won’t have...

There are a few things that have been bugging me lately.  One of them is when people ask me how my back is or how I’m recovering from the surgery (nearly a year ago now) and immediately follow it with “I haven’t heard you complaining much - you must be completely better.” And not a single time do I know how to respond.  Because really, would you want to be around a person...

I should make more apple chips (between us, Chris and Tia there are hardly any left from the two previous batches) the whole family is going out to dinner I found some of my canning supplies (yay!) I should be doing laundry and packing for our Thanksgiving trip Where are our winter coats?  I should not be wearing two zip-up hoodies under a blazer when leaving the...

I managed to electrocute myself this morning. Yeah, you read that right.  I managed to find the one exposed wire in this house that we missed when I went to turn off the light in the basement.  My arm still hurts, and weirdly so does my jaw. Tia’s coming over after 2 so I’m contemplating if I want to run out and get my last errand of the week done or if I just want to do stuff around...

I’ve only been here since noon and Miss A is on her fourth pair of pants. I am not amused. Ok, I would be more amused if I wasn’t involved in the clean up, but seriously child.

The terrible thing about have such a weird and constantly fluctuating work schedule is some days I just feel like I shouldn’t have to go in when I actually do.  My job doesn’t really have “sick days” either, or at least I wouldn’t be able to take a day with a clear conscience unless I was actually dying or would be a danger to the kids.  My back actually hurts quite...

beccaannabell replied to your photo: Apples are in the dehydrator! oh gosh that sounds amazing. now I want to do this!! I love making apple chips because it means I can have apples all winter long without paying so much.  And you don’t even need a dehydrator to do it - you can do it in the oven. This is the first year I used that peeler/corer thing-a-magig that the apple is on and I...

- had a wonderful lunch with Tia and managed to find a new case for my phone - picked up Richard’s video game.  Except for when we were eating dinner that’s all he has been doing all night, and I’m not sure how I feel about him using the term “bumrushed” so often…. eh. - made the apple chips, although they’re still going in the dehydrator and I’m...

From the beginning… Battlestar Galactica - I missed quite a few episodes the first time around since we didn’t have tv service and I used less than legit means.  Plus it’s just an amazing story. Doctor Who, 2005 on - again, I missed a lot of episodes the first go round Lost (maybe?) - I stopped watching when I went to college and therefore skipped two entire seasons, so I...

Work canceled again today, so I’m home with no real goals except the one I had before - a quick grocery shopping trip. I actually tried to convince myself that it would be a good idea to head to an estate sale that’s in our neighborhood.  It’s just under a mile away with no major streets to cross so I could walk it, but then I would want to take Wicket, and that’s just not...

I catalogued some of our media, but I didn’t do the complete overhaul, unpack and organize.  I gave myself the day to be lazy.  I know tomorrow we’re tackling the garage and then I have a late night at work, so I decided to take advantage of my day off. I did use the spoon butter that I made last Tuesday to treat the outside of my bowl and the top of the butcher block table so I still...

Last night a colleague of Richard’s offered up some extra tickets to the Badger game today so he went with another teacher and he’s gone for the rest of the day and I really don’t have any plans. Forget staying home and taking it easy, I’m gonna take the pup for a walk then head out for errands.  Otherwise known as doing three actual errands and then hitting a couple thrift stores on my way home.
