The game last night was pretty great, the Bucks won! It was my first basketball game, so not too shabby.
I’m really glad that I don’t have to go to work today, especially after all the snow that came down last night and all the shoveling that we did this morning my back is feeling a little wrecked and I don’t really want to venture out onto the roads.

Wicket has thrown herself into a pile of blankets for an early nap after her first encounter with snow in the back yard. She spent a full ten minutes tearing through the yard, down the back and into the side yard where she ran in a circle so many times she made a visible path through the snow.
I’ve already made some more olive tapenade and I need to convince myself to leave it alone...
I promised myself that I wouldn’t go heat up the rest of the pirogues before noon.
Eleven minutes and counting.
I’m planning to make fried okra to go with our dinner tonight and it’s all I can do to not make it right this minute and eat that (and only that) for lunch. Maybe I’ll just make some sweet tea to go along with dinner and convince myself that fried okra is not a proper meal.

Dear Republicans,
No matter how many tax breaks you give to businesses (small and otherwise) they will not be able to grow or even squeak by if their customer base is pushed further into poverty. Money doesn’t work that way.

nanny sick time
I was getting ready for work this morning when it became apparent (without going into gross details) that I really shouldn’t spend my day around young children about to go on vacation because I could very well get them all sick. It’s hard in this job to find the balance between taking time off when you are sick and knowing that there’s usually no one to take over for you when...
At work, but both girls are asleep so I’m trying to get a head start on planning tomorrow night’s grocery run which only leads to one conclusion…my life is not nearly as exciting as it could be.
Despite being rather sick this past week (ew.) and still a bit sick I’ve actually gotten a lot done in the last week.
I’m still functioning as my mom’s chauffeur until she’s completely recovered, so yesterday I took her out to finish her christmas shopping and I managed to get a few more presents finished as well.
I can’t wait until this Thursday! I have to work...
Per usual I’m spending Wednesday morning clipping coupons and putting together a grocery list for a stop after work. I’m contemplating how much housework I can get done before I leave and if I should just assume I’ll be able to do coupons at work durning naptime. After certain events this past weekend meant we really didn’t get anything done on Sunday I’m going to spend the day wrapping presents and working on the house. I’m trying to crochet a goldfish this morning, and I’m getting really frustrated at abbreviations.
No one uses the same ones universally in crochet patterns, so there’s generally a key at the beginning spelling out what they mean, but frequently the writer will leave out some of them. I’ve now had FIVE abbreviations that don’t mean a damn thing to me. I don’t...
There must be a direct correlation between how many times I say “fuck this” while Christmas shopping and why I start to dislike people more this time of year.
Two things being a nanny has taught me:
1) Patience
2) How to say no. Repeatedly, if necessary.

Mom is recovering from her surgery last week and I’ll probably go spend the afternoon at her house.
As for the rest of the week, I have more days off then on so I’m hoping that I can get everything for Christmas done by Saturday when we do Candy Cane Lane.

There are a few things that have been bugging me lately. One of them is when people ask me how my back is or how I’m recovering from the surgery (nearly a year ago now) and immediately follow it with “I haven’t heard you complaining much - you must be completely better.”
And not a single time do I know how to respond. Because really, would you want to be around a person...
I have the apple chips going so the house smells like apple pie which is cruel because it is a lie and the chips won’t be done for hours.

I managed to electrocute myself this morning.
Yeah, you read that right. I managed to find the one exposed wire in this house that we missed when I went to turn off the light in the basement. My arm still hurts, and weirdly so does my jaw.
Tia’s coming over after 2 so I’m contemplating if I want to run out and get my last errand of the week done or if I just want to do stuff around...
I’ve only been here since noon and Miss A is on her fourth pair of pants.

Ok, I would be more amused if I wasn’t involved in the clean up, but seriously child.
The terrible thing about have such a weird and constantly fluctuating work schedule is some days I just feel like I shouldn’t have to go in when I actually do. My job doesn’t really have “sick days” either, or at least I wouldn’t be able to take a day with a clear conscience unless I was actually dying or would be a danger to the kids.
